UW-Parkside Welcomes Journalist Tannette Johnson-Elie Oct. 22

KENOSHA, Wis.—The University of Wisconsin-Parkside Communication Dept. brings journalist Tannette Johnson-Elie to the Kenosha campus Thursday, Oct. 22. A veteran reporter and award-winning columnist, Johnson-Elie shares her insights on the use of social media during a presentation in room 101 of Greenquist Hall beginning at 7 p.m.

UW-Parkside Theatre Arts' Great Theatre Raffle for Cash, Tickets

KENOSHA, Wis.—The Theatre Arts Dept. at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside has launched its annual “Great Theatre Raffle.” The raffle features 16 prizes valued at more than $3,500 including tickets to Chicago and Milwaukee area theatres and a cash grand prize of $2,000.

PASA’s Fun Fair

On Saturday, Oct. 10, the Parkside Adult Student Alliance held its ninth annual Fun Fair in the Student Center, with some activities outside on the lawn by the terrace.

Sororities Zeta Sigma Chi and Gamma Alpha Omega helped out with face painting and the craft table. Siblings and children of University of Wisconsin-Parkside students and children from the community were invited to the fair.

The Fifty Dollar Question

The $50 security deposit seems “kind of high,” to many students, according to Bridget Tierney, a fourth year student and resident majoring in applied health science with a pre-physician assistant concentration.

All of the security deposits go into the residence life operations budget. About 95% of students get their deposit back, according to Shauna Hodges, assistant director of residence life. Students are not charged for normal wear and tear of the building. If a student believes that he has been wrongly charged, he can make an appeal and the fine may be refunded. If the fine exceeds $50, the student will receive a letter with an itemized list of fines and an outline of the appeal process.

Brickstone Grill & Eatery Hosts Student Entertainers

The first week of October saw the Brickstone Grill host a series of student entertainers during the Noon lunch hour. On Monday, Britney Jasper gave a vocal performance, and on Tuesday the Chaos Dance Team appeared.

On Wednesday and Thursday I interviewed the last two performers, Jason Kurt and the brother and sister team of James and Kathryn Ground. Both performances were vocals accompanied by acoustic guitar

Player Profile: Jason Moxley

UW-Parkside's student population might recognize a certain 6'0 athletic frame sporting a head and face of radiant blonde hair (as soccer standout Jason Moxley); However, limiting the 21-year-old from Waukegan, Illinois to merely his exploits on the field is actually discrediting an epic life journey. Moxley not only impacts Parkside's community on the field, but also off it as President and Ambassador of Campus Crusade for Christ.
