Liermann's Walk-Off Picks Up Split for Parkside

The UW-Parkside Rangers (10-19) played a double header Friday afternoon against the University of Missouri-St. Louis Tritons (6-23) of the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Rangers played at a very windy, hitter-friendly Oberbruner Field, and those in attendance certainly got their chance to see offense. The two teams put up fifty-one runs over the course of the two games, which was greatly contributed to a strong breeze to the left-center alley way.

Akindes Shines, Receives Outstanding Women of Color in Education Award

Dr. Fay Akindes, the Associate Communication Professor, and Center for Ethnic Studies Director, has received the 2010 Outstanding Women of Color in Education Award. According to the University of Wisconsin-Parkside website, this is an award that is presented by the UW System as a means of recognizing students, administration, and professors who contribute strongly to diversity and the ". . . status of women within the system." Akindes will be receiving the award during the ceremony on April 17th.

PSG Senator Spotlights

This Tuesday and Wednesday, Apr. 6 and 7, University of Wisconsin-Parkside will hold its annual Student Government elections. The primary function of UWP’s Student Government is to establish a secure community in all aspects while keeping in mind the future and general direction of the school, as well as responding to constitutes. In other words, the local government maintains the school and its functions on a more personal level than the local or state government.

Cress Steps Down, Yohnk Appointed Interim Dean

This June will serve as a significant time for the University of Wisconsin-Parkside as Dr. Dean Yohnk will be stepping in to fill the position of Interim Dean for the College of Arts and Sciences. Current Dean, Dr. Donald Cress, is retiring after 11 years of service to the University. 

Dr. Yohnk began at Parkside back in 2001, and currently sits as Chair and Artistic Director of the universities’ prized Theater Arts Department, with plans for a full professorship promotion sometime this year.

PSG Elections Approaching, Vice-President Spotlights

April PSG elections are approaching, and there are four candidates that're running for the position of Vice-President. For this reason, it's important that students are informed about the duties of the Vice-President in order to make accurate and confident decisions. According to the PSG constitution, the Vice-President is supposed to give them an itemized budget, and is required to issue a monthly report. The Vice-President has to act as the PSG liaison to lobbying organizations as well as collaborating events with these organizations.

Meet the Candidates and the PSG Debates, Stay Informed!

It is time for the Parkside Student Government (PSG) elections once again. In an attempt to keep the student body informed, PSG has scheduled two events that will help everyone meet and understand the platforms of the candidates. These events are titled 'Meet the Candidates,' and the other event is the PSG Debates. Meet the Candidates has been moved to the University Ballroom in order to accommodate the large number of potential candidates. There are thirty- five individuals running for a PSG office job this election season, therefore, the ballroom is certainly required.

Opening Home Series Ends Successfully

Parkside 9-16 (4-8) competed with Lewis 14-15 (5-7) four times in two days. After grabbing victories the first two games on Saturday, they settled with splitting the next two on Sunday.

The Rangers lost the first game, 2-0, in large part because of Lewis' ace Pat Lahey, who only gave up three hits. Parkside had a difficult time generating offense, as they left four people on base, and only managed three hits.

Complete Performances Produce Parkside Sweep

The UW-Parkside Rangers (8-15) played a double header Saturday afternoon against Great Lakes Valley Conference competitor Lewis (13-14). The Rangers played these games in front of a good turn out at a windy and cold Oberbruner Field. The crowd was treated to a Parkside sweep of the visiting Lewis Flyers.
